:: ACCOUSTIC GYM DIVIDER ::

The double-wall Acoustic Divider curtain when installed with valences and alcoves provides a sound transmission reduction of 25 dB.

Acoustic Curtain

The ends of the curtain are trimmed on site by the installer to ensure a fit to the walls. The ends are terminated inside the alcoves if ordered. The curtain drapes on the floor and converges on a centered lift pipe that is set to remain clear of the floor. The walls of the curtain are interconnected by wires spaced at 5 feet (1525mm) vertically and 30 inches (766mm) horizontally.

The system includes a 3 phase thermally protected reversing electric motor with electric brake, coupled to a 120:1 double-output worm gear transmission sized and selected to the curtains requirements. The 1.9" (48mm) diameter steel drive shafts are attached with flexible couplings to each output shaft of the gearbox. The drive shaft is supported by flange-mounted ball bearings at 10 feet (3056mm) maximum spacing. The take up reels are grooved to insure that the cable "lays" remain flat and are 35 times greater than the cable diameter.

A limit switch is connected directly on the drive shaft eliminating the need for belts and chain drives. Operation is by a constant pressure key switch located on both sides of the curtain.

A 1.6" (40.6mm) diameter steel tube supports the tops of the curtain walls. The bottom-lifting pipe is a 1.9" (48mm) steel tube. All clamps and fasteners for the attachment of the winch and bearings to the underside of the beams or joist are supplied and all load bearing fasteners are Grade 5 steel.

The drive shaft and all hardware are painted with gray primer.

Alcoves, if ordered, are manufactured from dense closed cell foam, upholstered in 55oz (1.9 kg/m2) vinyl, color matched to the curtain color. Alcoves are a minimum of 4" (102mm) wide by 6" (152mm) thick and mounted on 3/4" (19mm) plywood with steel brackets to the wall.

Valences have a complete bottom pocket. The installer provides ceiling fasteners.

The curtain is manufactured from sound reducing 55oz (1.9 kg/m2) fire and smoke rated vinyl, reinforced with polyester scrim. The curtain is manufactured of continuous horizontal lengths, welded and double-stitched together. Solid D-rings are sewn at 30" (915mm) centers along the horizontal seams. D-rings on the facing wall of the curtain are linked with 3/32" (2.4mm) diameter aircraft wire cables. The bottom hems have #4 grommets at 8" (203mm) centers.

Ongoing fire test labels are permanently attached to both sides of the curtain.

High Lift Option

This curtain is employed where folded height is of prime importance.  Curtain folds to less than 30" (766mm) from attachment point including lifting hardware.  This curtain has all the physical properties and appearance of the standard double wall acoustic divider.

The higher lift is achieved by staggering the panels, doubling the take-up reels and using non stretch lift lines.

Acoustic Divider Drawing

This curtain is more costly to fabricate and therefore does not directly replace the standard acoustic divider.  It is recommended that the standard divider be specified and indicate the minimum permissible folded height clearance.
